Moratorium on Windmills off Coast of New Jersey

Asbury Park Press reports this morning that New Jersey Governor Codey has placed a moratorium on windmills off the coast of New Jersey: "Acting Gov. Codey said yesterday he will issue an executive order next week establishing a moratorium on windmills off the New Jersey coast while the state comes up with a policy on them."

The moratorium comes just after the State Board of Public Utilities spent over $300,000 to hire a private company - Atlantic Renewable Energy Corp - to study the potential of siting wind farms off the coast. Other companies, including Winergy LLC, have explored area's potential for wind farms as well.

This is not the first time a moratorium for this area has been contemplated - there's some history on the topic in our previous posts.
