Update: CPUC Decision on Solar Renewable Energy Certificates Delayed
According to a recent report from Renewable Energy Access.com, the California Public Utilities Commission ("CPUC") has delayed a decision on ownership of Solar Renewable Energy Credits ("SRECs").
As we reported earlier, the CPUC issued a proposed decision last week granting ownership of SRECs to utility companies, rather than to the individuals who install and operate solar energy systems. An outcry of opposition from the solar industry has delayed the decision. Some companies, including Google, have stated that they would not invest in solar energy systems if they could not own the SRECs associated with such systems.
